Final Score: RI 59-31 Christchurch Secondary
This morning, we played the 2nd match of the 2nd round of the T-Net tournament.
We were up against Christchurch Secondary and their star Malaysian no. 12.
We started off with a 3-2 zone defense and clamped down on their star player's offense. We gave up some open looks, and the score settled at 12-10 to RI after a hard-fought first quarter.
In the second quarter, we played pressure defense and increased our lead to 25-16.
In the third quarter, their players seemed to have tired out and we put on the pressure with a 3 pt line man-to-man defense. Although the intensity wasn't as great as expected, we romped to a 40-22 lead by the end of the third quarter.
We played out the last quarter with average intensity and won the match 59-21.
Bad points:
1) Communication--coach gave us a 5/10 for this aspect of the game and there is much room for improvement
2) Rebounding--when to box out and when to rush in and get the ball (perimeter players must rush in and help too)
3) Game Intensity at the start--we dominated the first quarter with a great deal of the possesion yet the scoreline was only 12-10--we needed to finish our open baskets
Good points (from Coach):
1) First time we were able to maintain an average intensity throughout the game (consistent)
2) The WHOLE TEAM is back together
What Coach wants:
1) Talking to be 10/10 so that we frighten off the opponenents so much that they turn the ball over
2) Wants us to kill off all opponents such that RI would have a reputation which makes opponents tremble in their pants before they even get on court
3) More intensity
"Offense entertains, defense wins games, rebounding wins championships!"
