What Does Gryphons Cup Mean to Me?

Interview Reports by Kevin Khoo, Zaki & Keong Jae

Darren  Chua (RI 2001)

Position: Point guard

Best Achievement: B Div Quarterfinals

Most Memorable RI Basketball Experience: When we finally triumphed over a “champion” team and previous conquerors (Lesson Learnt: Perseverance can make the difference)

G-Cup: “NOSTALGIC" -  rare opportunity to get together with his friends and play basketball, just like the old times.

Yang Jun Rong (RI 2003)

Position: Guard

Best Achievement: C Div National Champions, B Div National Quarterfinals

Most Memorable Game: Close win against Gan Eng Seng School despite leading for first three quarters.

Gryphon Cup: A SPECIAL event to meet up with his batch to play ball, something that they weren’t usually able to do due to other commitments.

Matthew Chuah (RI 2001)

Position: Guard

Best Achievement: C Division Nationals Runner-up, B Div Quarterfinalists

Most memorable Game: South Zone 2nd Round vs West Lake Secondary School – very different and organised opponents despite 2 previous wins. They had already played against this school 2 times during the tournament. (Lesson Learnt: All matches are a learning process -- the opponents learn from you, and you in return, learn from them.)

Gryphons Cup: A special chance to play COMPETITIVE basketball despite the age & commitment limitations.
