Raffles 31-48 Dunman Sec.
20th July, 4pm, at Clementi Sports Hall.
It was a do-or-die match today. Even though we 'died', our spirits are still high as we exit from the tournament.
We knew that it was going to be a tough match today. However, we told ourselves that even if we were going to lose, we would give it our all and would not go down without a fight.
We knew that Dunman High had a good centre. Thus, we wanted to deny him the ball and to box him out on rebounds as much as possible. We also knew that they had a good shooter, and so we wanted to have a hand on him to prevent him from taking uncontested shots.
We played good defense on their centre. However, it was not good enough and he still managed to get a hand full of offensive rebounds which he converted on most occasions.
We prevented their shooter from getting uncontested shots. Nevertheless, he still managed to score points from fast breaks and offensive rebound and put-back.
Overall, our defense was not as good as it was in previous games.
On offense, we scored our points mostly from fast breaks. We still ran our set plays and managed to hit three 3-pointers.
We fought hard for today's match but Dunman Sec was the better team.
Even though we are eliminated from the competition, we have gained much throughout this season. We have definitely matured as a team, became more bonded as a team, and last but not least, improved tremendously as a team. We are pleased to have made it this far, and we know that all our hard work have not gone to waste.
Scoring by quarters:
1st Quarter -- DS 15 RI 6
2nd Quarter -- DS 14 RI 7
3rd Quarter -- DS 8 RI 8
4th Quarter -- DS 11 RI 10

A few words before the Dunman Secondary match...
Hey C boys,
while keeping track with your latest tournament fixtures, I realised that you guys are on the brink of elimination so I hope you guys would benefit from this pregame message and tips.
So far after all the latest hype since the South Zone finals, you guys face danger of ending your season tomorrow. Let's get something straight. The situation is not hopeless. Despite your first loss to Jurong this year, there's no reason why tomorrow's game cannot go your way if you play it well.
Personally, I am not a member of your C Division so i am not that well- informed of your weaknesses and your opponent's game, but I know one thing. You guys have your strengths, and it is extremely obvious. It's the reason why you won your South Zone finals and excelled in all your games so far. Your team knows who's good at what, who's not so good in some things, so tomorrow, what you can add to the team play when you come of the bench (if you're a bench player), just play to your strengths and get ready for a true battle of the FIGHT in Raffles Basketball.
During your mental preparation tomorrow, for one minute remember the worst game you ever played. What did you do wrongly? Were you lacking effort? Remember the wrong choices at the wrong times. Wallow in it for 10 seconds, then close your eyes and let it fade away, out with your exhaling breath.
After that, close your eyes and recall the best game you ever had. Whether it's a long time ago, or just the match today, shut down your mind to all but that great performance. Did you think about making every shot? Where were you on the court? What kind of experience you were getting from the game? Imagine someone recorded the highlights of your best game ever. Breathe it in and let it enrich your senses, let your desire for that same level of performance prepare yourself mentally, for confidence, for clutch moments, etc.
Become mentally strong for tomorrow, be prepared to be so tired that it's a whole new level of fatigue. But the rule is, never give up till the whistle it's over. Even the NBA example of Tracy McGrady, scoring 13 points in 35 seconds, coming back from a 12 point deficit against the San Antonio Spurs. Well doesn't necessarily mean one of you guys will knock down 4 threes in the clutch tomorrow, but the idea is there. You cannot be sure where the ball is rolling till it stops.
Focus on winning quarter by quarter tomorrow. The stats and scores are no longer important. Remember that playing well, excelling in defense and working on those boards will result in good offense and the fate of the game. Keep pushing hard for it, don't stop believing, and get to the semi finals that your seniors and old boys are all feverishly anticipating.
JIAYOU RI C DIV '10! (:
RI 51 -44 Pei Cai Secondary
19 July, 1.45pm, at Clementi Sports Hall
It was generally a good game today. Even though we were down by 6 points at the end of the first quarter, we continued to play solid defense and managed to catch up in the second quarter.
We managed to hold on to the lead for the rest of the games with rebounds and smooth offense. However, we must cut down on our turn overs which can be extremely costly at times.
Our next match will be tomorrow, 20th July, against Dunman Secondary School.
Scoring by quarters:
1st Quarter -- PCS 16 RI 10

RI 39 - 31 Prebyterian High School
9th July, 4pm, at Clementi Sports Hall
This was the last game for the first round of the Nationals.
This was a lousy game compared to our first 2 games in the Nationals. We were down 0-4 before we finally scored our first point. Furthermore, we were not getting the rebounds and our offense was very messy.
At the start of the third quarter, we were up by 9. However, we allowed them to catch up by making turnovers and allowing their forward, #4, to score back-to-back threes. At the end of the quarter, they caught up by 6 points.
Fortunately, we played a little better in the fourth quarter and managed to out score the opponent by 5, getting the win.
The match fixtures for round 2 is still unconfirmed. Our next game will most probably be towards the end of next week. (Thur or Fri)

We played well for this match, working hard on defense and stopping their players from dribbling to the basket.
We lead in the first and second quarter but allowed them to catch up in the third, and they even lead by 2 at one point. Nonetheless, we out ran, out rebounded, and out played the opponents in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory for RI.
