Catholic High 30 - 48 RI

This was our final game in the Milo Cup U14 Competition.

We arrived early at SBC to warm up and get prepared for the game. We wanted to win this game, not only because it was our last one, but also because our opponents were mostly Sec 1s.

We trailed throughout the game, taking a 7 point lead in the first quarter. At the end of the third quarter we were up by 25 points.

Our sec 1s played for most of the fourth quarter. Despite being outscored in the fourth quarter, we still won the game.

RI 37-36 UWC

(I apologize in the delay in posting as there's a problem with blogger not saving and a publishing a report of my usual length.

Different team, same situation.

This time with different results.

In the closely played third-fourth placing game, we came out to shoot 6 of 17 from the three point arc. Bao Kun shot 3 out of 5, Daniel 1 of 2 and Alex 2 of 4. A very close game through, we had good bench rotation and though we lost the lead in the third quarter, we caught up with a floater by mark and bao kun knocking down a three in the clutch with 30 seconds to go. We played tough defense and prevented our opponents from catching up, and we ended 37-36.

Today, we played a high octane game of basketball, shooting from long range and trying to maintain the momentum. We must learn to play this style of basketball because there will be teams which are much bigger than us and we would be less effective in the low post, thus we have to play at an intensity that our opponents will struggle with and be prepared to shoot. Getting our bronze medal is not the end of our tournament, but it is the start of new experiences we can learn from and correct before regular season time. Have a good break and let's work on our game in the pre-season.

P.S: We would appreciate if people who criticize us could point out who they are and our mistakes and where we can learn from instead of just blandly insulting our players. If you really mean well for the team, your criticism and comments will be taken seriously. Thank you.

RI 46 - 49 Tong Whye Sports Club

This was the second game of the Milo Cup.

We started off strong with the first 8 points scored by Phi. We went head to head in the next two quarters, and the score was very close all the time. However, in the fourth quarter, we could not keep our cool while the opponents did a full court press on us. They managed to steal our ball quite a few times with their press. We also could not keep their center out of the paint and he managed to get a lot of offensive rebounds.

This is definitely not a game to remember.

Scoring by quarters:
1st Quarter -- RI 14 Tong Whye 16
2nd Quarter -- RI 6 Tong Whye 5
3rd Quarter -- RI 13 Tong Whye 8
4th Quarter -- RI 13 Tong Whye 20

RI 44 - 62 Siglap Youth

This was our first game in the Milo Cup U14 competition.

We started off good with a 3-pointer by Ming Jun. All the 5 starters managed to score at least a point. However, we failed to stop their #9 from driving to the basket on numerous occasion.

The second quarter was disappointing. We made bad passes and could not find our rhythm. However, in the third quarter we managed to catch up with good drive and shots by Chun Cheong.

However, we could not take the lead in the final quarter. Perhaps if we had played better help defense on #9, we could have won the game. Nonetheless, it was a good game. We managed to involve the sec 1s, giving them the opportunity to get the feel for the game.

Scoring by quarters:
1st Quarter -- RI 15 Siglap Youth 16
2nd Quarter -- RI 4 Siglap Youth 11
3rd Quarter -- RI 13 Siglap Youth 16
4th Quarter --
RI 12 Siglap Youth 19

RI 25-38 AISS

In the match played yesterday, we were dealt with a severe blow. We were up 13-4 after the first quarter, but things took a turn for a worse as we were outplayed and outrebounded by the AISS players again and everytime we didn't score, our energy level dropped further. Eventually, we blew a 9 point lead and ended up with a 13 point deficit at the buzzer.

Before the game, in fact, before any matches, we should not have play any other basketball matches or activities that may lead to a bad game for all of us. We should conserve our energy before the game and remained focused, dedicated and be accountable to the rest of our teammates. Have a good rest and let's strive harder since school ends today.
